Ryan Vis holds a Master of Music Performance in Viola from the University of Ottawa, where he studied under the esteemed Michael van der Sloot. He previously served as orchestra manager for the uOttawa Symphony Orchestra. Ryan currently serves as the President of the Canadian Viola Society.
He is actively engaged in pedagogy, delivering instruction in group classes and theory at Ottawa Suzuki Strings and ocassionally collaborating with Glebe Montessori School as well as Back to Bach. Ryan’s musical contributions include performances with prominent groups such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Candlelight Concerts, Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, Gatineau Symphony, Ottawa Pops Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony as part of the PRISMA Festival as well as most recently Orchestre de la Francophonie.
Ryan earned his Bachelor's degree in Viola Performance from McGill Schulich School of Music under the tutelage of Frédéric Lambert. His musical journey began with piano at age 3, followed by violin at age 8, and eventually viola at age 12. He enjoys playing on his viola made by Theo Marks based in the Netherlands and Canada.
